Course Description for ITEC4036: Information System Security
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the principles and practices of computer and information system security, with a strong emphasis on web and Internet security. It introduces fundamental cryptographic techniques, including symmetric (shared key) encryption, public key encryption, key exchange mechanisms, and digital signatures. Students will explore how these cryptographic tools are integrated into secure Internet protocols and applications such as SSL/TLS, IPsec. Additionally, the course examines key system security concerns, including malware (e.g., viruses), intrusion detection and prevention, and the implementation of firewalls.

Computer maintenance refers to the regular upkeep, servicing, and repair of computer systems to ensure they run efficiently, securely, and reliably. It includes both hardware and software tasks designed to prevent problems and extend the lifespan of the computer.
